My First Green Monster

I have seen these smoothies on many a food blog, so I will take no credit, however I was dying to try it out on husband. He was willing.

Here are the components

1 frozen banana (note: remove peel before freezing- I learned that lesson the hard way)
1 cup oat milk (or whatever milk you dig)
1 heaping Tablespoon vanilla rice protein powder
1 Tablespoon almond butter
2 cups spinach

Blend all ingredients in a blender. Until smooth.

A couple notes:
  • Put almond butter near the bottom of the blender. I put mine on top of the spinach which made incorporating it harder.
  • Don't put the whole cup of milk in right away. Start with a little bit and add to desired consistency. I added it all and the smoothie was more like juice, so I added a few frozen cherries to bulk it up.

Husband is nervous.

Husband LOVED it! He wants one every morning. The thing is, you totally don't taste the spinach at all, but you get all the advantages of getting your spinach on:

  • Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B6. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, copper, protein, phosphorus, zinc and vitamin E. In addition, it is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, niacin and selenium.
  • It is said to contain 13 phytoflavinoids
  • It has cartenoids that fight prostate cancer
  • It fights ovarian cancer
  • Vitamin K is important for bone health
  • Vitamin C and A destroy free radicals in the body
  • Folate promotes gastrointestinal health
